About boat.vin
An archive of salvage boats and jet skis from Copart and IAA in the US and Canada, with what they sold for, and a free HIN decoder. 4,199 boats on file, 557 of them coming up for auction.
Who runs boat.vin
boat.vin is run by Fleetiqo LLC, a company based in Newark, Delaware, which also runs SalvageAlert, a monitoring service for salvage car auctions. An account works on both sites.
We are independent. We are not affiliated with Copart, Inc. or IAA, Inc., we do not sell boats, and we do not take bids.
Where the data comes from
SalvageAlert reads the public listings of Copart and IAA in the United States and Canada around the clock. boat.vin shows the boats and personal watercraft among them, and keeps each one after its sale, when the auction takes its own page down.
Boats and jet skis are told apart from cars by the auction’s category and the listing’s words. Makes are cleaned up from the auctions’ abbreviations. Now and then a listing is misfiled: if you spot one, tell us.
What the prices mean
“Sold for” is the hammer price, shown only when the auction published it. “Last bid seen” is the highest bid we recorded before the sale closed: usually close to the final price, but not the same thing. Condition and damage descriptions are the auction’s, not an inspection.
HIN decoding is read from the number itself, following US Coast Guard rule 33 CFR Part 181. Dates from the two pre-1984 formats are estimates.
